AMY OLSEN
Amy Olsen’s grandmother, Mary, is her inspiration. Mary was so tough that her family called her iron lady. She spent years caring for her husband without complaint as he suffered from multiple sclerosis, so it was tragic when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
“It just seemed like a cruel joke to us,” says Amy. “She deserved peace instead of the long, slow loss to Alzheimer’s. It is one of the worst ways for life to end.”
Amy became propelled into action, so she contacted her local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association®†. Soon after she became active in one of their annual fundraisers, RivAlz, a flag football charity game where two teams of women compete to inspire fundraising, awareness, and action in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.
“Anybody that plays or participates has a heart of gold,” says Terri Waddell, Constituents Events Manager for the Minnesota-North Dakota chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association®. “Amy is such a giver, whether it is her time or passion, or dollars from her pocket. Anyone who is a part of RivAlz is instrumental in fighting this disease, and Amy has really helped this organization grow.”
